Reading A Hawaii-Grown Kratom Label: Terms To Understand

Blog

A lot of the kratom sold in the United States is grown in Hawaii. The mountain air and sandy soil on the islands are ideal for this plant. It should give you some peace of mind to know your herbal medicine is grown in the U.S. However, you'll still want to understand what you're shopping for and buying. Learning the meanings of these common terms seem on kratom labels will really help.

Lemon Tek

If you see Hawaii-grown kratom labeled as "lemon tek extracted" or just "lemon tek," this means the seller used citric acid (usually derived from lemons) to treat the kratom before packaging it. This simply serves to make the active compounds in the plant more available so your body can access and use them faster. Lemon tek kratom will start to affect you in about half the time it would take untreated kratom.

Rubiaceae

Rubiaceae is simply the name of the family of plants that kratom is a part of. Some kratom brands will put this on the label. It's mostly a marketing move — an attempt to make the plant seem more unique and high-end. All kratom belongs to the Rubiaceae family, so don't let the use of this term be a deciding factor in which kratom you decide to buy.

Red Vein, Green Vein, Etc.

There are three key varieties of kratom: red vein, white vein, and green vein. Some grow better in certain climates, but all can grow in Hawaii. So, when you buy Hawaii-grown kratom, you often have your choice between these three strains. Red vein is said to be the most relaxing. White vein is said to be more energizing. Green vein is said to have a hybrid of qualities — it reduces stress while energizing you a bit. That being said, if you're new to kratom, it's worth trying all three varieties to see how they affect you since everyone reacts a bit differently.

Alkaloids

Alkaloids are just the class of chemical compounds that are active in kratom. A label for some Hawaii-grown kratom may say that it's "high in alkaloids" or "contains more active alkaloids." All kratom contains some alkaloids, so don't let this factor weigh in too much.

Hopefully, you'll now have a better understanding of what you're buying when you buy Hawaii-grown kratom. It doesn't hurt to try a few different brands and see which one you like best.
